2018年中山大学“爱悦读”英语书评大赛获奖名单

 

一年一度的中山大学“爱悦读”英语书评大赛获奖名单如约而至,此次揭晓姗姗迟来,让大家久等了!

 

2018书评年度大赛首次由共青团中山大学委员会主办,师生反响异常热烈,收到来自英专、非英专、大一、大二以及大三等学生的大量投稿。近四百名学生和四十个小组自愿热情投入,撰写创作文字稿件和视频作品,将经典阅读和创新认知紧密结合,展现了新时代大学生的思想深度和创新灵感。

 

中山大学“爱悦读”英语书评大赛评委组由中山大学外国语学院外语教学中心九名科研教学能力精干的骨干教师组成。本次大赛秉承公平公正的原则,经过初选、复选和终选三个阶段,层层筛选,严格把关,现将2018年中山大学“爱悦读”英语书评大赛获奖名单公布如下:

Fatal obsession

A brook glides through a valley quietly with faint wind blows from the deep, a grove of walnut trees murmur with their leaves serving as a foil to the woodpeckers tapping noisethe legend of sleepy hollow takes shape in such tranquility. It is indeed a scaring legend, for the headless horseman who gallops at midnight to find his own head, or the woman in white who haunts the dark glen and shrieks before a storm. However, I think the most frightening part of the legend is the way it challenges humanity and weakness psychically. Ones immature obsession towards the legend could lead to a tremendous strike on ones notion and faith, which influences a whole life. Thus, I name it a fatal obsession.

The legend of sleepy hollow is actually a paradox: is it a legend of that headless horseman and other ghosts or a folk story of Ichabods adventure related to the sleepy hollow legend. In the postscript of the book, the writer Mr. Knickerbocker wrote down a conversation between the story teller and an audience, in which the insightful audience suggested that the legend made no sense. I could hardly agree with that audience for he could not see the wisdom of paradox hidden in the legend. The horrible stories of the sleepy hollow both attracted and frightened Ichabod, a young naïve teacher. But he could not put away his fear and appreciate the legend with all his heart. His obsession of the sleepy legend made him more cowardly. Dramatically, he became a part of the sleepy hollow legend to be told by the posterity. It is interesting to imagine how folk stories are shaped by actual people’s experience or characteristics.

点评2:作者能用语言将读者带入ta的视角来看待这本书,写作技巧娴熟,语言能力较强,结构设计精巧。

 

点评3:如同故事本身的传奇性一样,书评构思精巧,也给书评营造了一种扑朔迷离,欲擒故纵的氛围。

 

 

Book Review on The Crowd: A Study of Popular Mind

There goes a famous saying “Many hands make light work” and it has been a common idea that the crowd have collective intelligence. Nevertheless, Gustave Le Bon, the father of group psychology, not only smashed our traditional impressions on the crowd, but also criticized the crowd without mercy in his work. The Crowd: A Study of Popular Mind reveals the characteristics and mental activities of the crowd, enlightening me about the group mind as well as kinds of phenomena in modern society.

 

As the cornerstone of group psychology, The Crowd focuses on the study of the crowd in psychological angle and analyzes the crowd’s features. In the book, Gustave points out that the crowd, completely different from individuals, are dominated by unconscious consideration. The disappearance of personality and the turning of feelings and thoughts in a certain direction are the primary characteristics of a crowd. In the absence of collective mind, a psychological crowd tends to be unexpectedly impulsive, irritable and sentimental. In short, author views that lower intelligence and the same direction of sentiment and idea are the striking peculiarity presented by a crowd.

点评1:评述得当有力,有赞扬也有批驳,有书中例证也有观点引发。

 

点评2:短小精悍,虽然题目较普通,但内容层层递进,引人入胜。语言较好,结构合理。

 

 

评委点评篇

 

从往届书评的点评中,我们可以看出一篇合格的书评语言基本达意,框架大致完整,既有对书籍内容的总结,也有对书本的评价同时述评结合,评价部分以书籍内容来进行支撑。而一篇优秀的书评则表达能力较强,写作技巧娴熟,结构设计精巧,评述得当有力,有书中例证,有观点引发,还有点题升华。

 

以视频形式呈现书评人的阅历和己见是我们书评大赛的一大亮点。怎样的一部视频书评作品可以入围呢?如果它画面音质清晰,发音尙可语言流畅,观点表达清晰,电影片段画面支持有效结合书评文本,结构完整,有述有评,评述基于阅读文本且有一定比例的原创元素,就一定能受到青睐。当然优秀的作品就需要表现出若干优秀的品质,比方说,录音效果完美,表达方式有创意,画面观点结合贴切紧密,述评恰当,有效使用微视频媒介等。

 

我们在阅读创作过程中需要避开那些雷区呢?如芃芃老师所言,“作为一个开《英语文学与电影改编》课程的人,我最大的忧虑是大多数同学们在制作视频时毫不犹豫地把电影当做文学作品,评论重点基本上都在情节或观点,而不是对文学自身的语言进行分析。文学和电影是两种不同的媒介,各自有自己的语言特点,“爱悦读”活动强调经典阅读,一个主要目的是希望大家能够用学术的态度分析、体会书面语言的意义生产方式。

 

我们希望大家能够用学术的态度”对待经典阅读和书评写作创作,继续完整细致地阅读经典原著,继续延伸阅读相关学术文章,继续用自己的语言自己的视觉创作属于自己的佳作佳品!
